Portes et Passages du Retour’s Center for Art and Holistic Development is situated near the far-end of the Petite Cote of Senegal, approximately 114km south along the main road from Dakar. In the Rural Region of Nguéniène, Portes et Passages possesses 4hectares of land located 3km south of the village of Mbodiene and 7km north of the Commune of Joal-Fadiouth. The Art center neighbors Ngazobil, a stretch of 6km of land north of Joal-Fadiouth, owned by the Catholic Church containing a seminary, convent and a protected forest. Joal-Fadiouth is a Commune of approximately 40,000 inhabitants, made up of two villages, Joal, the largest, and Fadiouth, an island made entirely of seashells that is connected to Joal by a wooded bridge. Joal’s main activity is its fishing port, the 2nd largest in Senegal. The rural community of Nguéniène is composed of many villages situated in the north-east of Joal-Fadiouth, which belong to the department of M’Bour (Region of Thies).
